Shipping Rig for Naval Nuclear Components

This project was a logistically complex international construction project I managed. It involved two governments, two militaries, civilian standards boards; rail, truck, and sea transport of very oversized loads; welding, machining, fabrication; project management; and advanced engineering simulation.

Load Test Using a Crane

This image shows the actual shipping rig being load tested to over 1/2 million pounds.  The load was applied using a crane that can be seen in the back on the image.

Complex Shipment

The image at right is not the actual shipped article, but is very similar. (The actual shipped article cannot be shown due to security reasons).  International sea shipments, overland truck shipments, and rail carriage were necessary for this project, and to deliver it to the customer overseas.  The shipping rig was quite an engineering and logistics challenge!

The fabrication of the shipping rig, and the load test, was handled almost exclusively by Girard Machine in Girard, OH.  Check those guys out, they are awesome!
